Our Story
Antonio's Grinders was built on the American Dream. At 17 years old, Salvatore "Sammy" Vatrano came to America in 1948 from Calabria, Italy. After adjusting to life in a new country, Sammy had a dream of serving the public.
In 1963 the first Antonio's opened on Bay Street. Antonio is the name of both Sammy's grandfathers, father, and brother. Five years later the Antonio's franchise expanded to Chestnut Street, then later to State Street, Longhill Street, Boston Road, and to Southwick, MA. The Antonio's restaurants soon became known for their homemade tomato sauce, grinder roll press, fast and friendly service, and affordable prices.
Sammy now operates the Antonio's Grinders located on Longhill Street with his wife, Gail, and his three daughters: Marie, Gina, and Pamela. His son, Greg, operates the State Street location with his wife, Clara.
Over 50 years later, Antonio's Grinders continues to serve the Greater Springfield community and surrounding areas.
